' ROVINJ GUIDE | TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN ROVINJ, CROATIA

I love looking up travel guides whenever I'm travelling somewhere new, it just makes it easier for me to figure out what sights to see, things to do and helps me plan ahead so I thought I'd do a Rovinj travel guide with a list of top things to do for anyone thinking of visiting Rovinj.

What attracted me to Rovinj was the vibrant and colourful buildings (which I am sucker for) and reminded me so much of Venitian architecture. Unfortunately we went first week of October which was just after their peak summer season so most things/excursions/bars were closed plus the weather wasn't amazing. When we arrived it was raining but luckily enough we had just missed a heavy rainstorm the day before. The weather did pick up the rest of the weekend and didn't rain again but it was a bit chilly. Another holidayer we met, recommended going in September or in May. Despite the weather not being great, I quite liked going in October because it wasn't overly crowded.

Here's my list of the top things to do in Rovinj:

1. EXPLORE ROVINJ

Rovinj is a small town, we pretty much explored it from top to bottom in one day then did it again just to take it all in. So my advice is to just have a wander around, get lost and just this little charming town. You'll find it so hard not to take photos every turn you make!

2. ULICA GRISIA (GRISIA STREET)

Ulica Grisia is a lovely and charming cobblestone street lined with souvenir stores with lots of colour and art galleries. We picked up a few lavender souvenirs, postcards and fridge magnets. La Grisia leads to the church of St. Euphemia, which is next on the list.

3. SAINT EUPHEMIA CATHEDRAL

St Euphemia Cathedral features a tall bell tower offering views of Rovinj and the sea, if you're willing to climb and pay of course but it's only a small fee. We didn't stay in the church for long because it just felt wrong being in there when there were people praying.

4. CHECK OUT THE LOCAL ART SCENE

Whenever I travel, I am always drawn to the local art scene and have been buying and collecting since I started travelling (one day I'll have a massive house to display it all in). You'll find plenty of art  shops as you wander around but particularly on Grisia street, which even has an art exhibition held once year in August. So if you're an art lover, La Grisia is a must.

5) SAMPLE THE FOOD AND WINE

There's plenty of restaurants to choose from so try the fresh sea food and wine in one of the many restaurants along the harbour whilst enjoying the view, people watching or watching the boats go in and out.

6. WATCH THE SUNSET

If you love watching and capturing sunsets like I do, you'll absolutely love Rovinj sunsets. I mean looking at the photos below, how could you not? These photos are unedited and unfiltered btw! I highly recommend after a meal by the harbour, take a stroll along the marina and enjoy the sunset.

7. TAKE A DAY TRIP TO PULA (PULA ARENA)

Pula is Istria's largest city, 35 minute bus ride away from Rovinj. Pula is full of ancient ruins, Roman buildings and is mostly famous for the Pula Arena, a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre. It's worth a visit if you're a history buff. We paid to get into the Arena but to be quiet honest, worth paying for; we could have walked around on the outside and still got to see and and experience the same view. Pula was a lot more lively and vibrant in terms of bars and entertainment compared to Rovinj but it wasn't as picturesque.

Hire a car and explore the other neighbouring Istrian towns like Motovun, Porec or Groznjan.

8) BOAT RIDE AROUND ROVINJ ISLANDS

Sail out and see Rovinj from a different perspective or a sunset tour and watch the dolphins or take it a step further and take a boat ride to Venice!

9. ATELIER CHARM

Atelier Charm, a cute boutique at the edge of the Adriatic sea, is one of Rovinj's most instgrammed spots. If you search #Rovinj or #LovelyRovinj on Instagram, Atelier Charm is most likely to come up at the top and you can see why. It's located down the stairs off the main walk to/from St Euphemia church.

10. WINE TASTING
This was on my list but didn't get the chance to do it. We tried booking it through our hotel but it was last minute and the tour was already booked up so look into booking it in advance.

I hope you find this useful. If you have any feedback or questions, just ask away in the comments.

Thanks for stopping by :)
